The move took advantage of the existing experience and know-how in power plant development within the Sonae Group, dating back to the 1980´s. The aim was to transform a set of existing energy related assets and skills embedded in other Sonae operations into a business unit in its own right. Today, Capwatt´s portfolio has grown significantly and is mostly independent of other Sonae Group activities. Capwatt is an independent power producer with recognized know-how and a proven track record on the Portuguese market. Develops, designs, builds, owns and operates high efficiency on-site decentralized power plants, establishing strong and long-lasting relations with its partners, on a win-win basis. The company owns and operates 77,7 MW: 10 combined heat and power plants with 44,3 MW, 16 solar power plants with 17,3 MW, 1 wind park with 5,0 MW, 1 biogas power plant with 1,1MW and 1 biomass power plant with 10,0MW.
